Patent Matching

The Department of Defense (DoD) holds more than 8000 patents and typically receives more than 400 new patents each year.  These patents cover innovations in many fields including medicine, engineering, physics, materials, and others.  Many of these patented innovations represent viable products with potential commercial application.   Patent matching is a service by T2BridgeTM  designed to match promising DoD technologies with companies capable of realizing the commercial potential.

T2BridgeTM screens DoD technologies to identify select patents with high potential for commercial development.  Once identified, efforts are be made to find companies interested in licensing the technologies for commercial development.  Outreach efforts employ a variety of mechanisms including postings on the T2BridgeTM web site as well as posting on web sites of local, regional, and national economic development partners.  Direct outreach is also be made to companies located in the Carolinas and other Southeastern states.

Patent Match facilitates the licensing of DoD technologies to the commercial sector thereby increasing the competitiveness of the regional and U.S. industrial base. Examples of patent matching services available include the following:

·  Screening technologies for commercial potential.

·  Creating awareness of patents available from DoD.

·  Actively seeking companies with potential interest in patent licensing.

·  Qualifying interest from potential licensees.

·  Assisting interested companies prepare license applications and commercialization plans.
