Patent Matching
The Department of Defense (DoD) holds more than 8000 patents and typically
receives more than 400 new patents each year. These patents cover
innovations in many fields including medicine, engineering, physics,
materials, and others. Many of these patented innovations represent viable
products with potential commercial application. Patent matching is a
service by T2BridgeTM
designed to match promising DoD technologies with companies
capable of realizing the commercial potential.
T2BridgeTM
screens DoD technologies to identify select patents with high
potential for commercial development. Once identified, efforts are be made
to find companies interested in licensing the technologies for commercial
development. Outreach efforts employ a variety of mechanisms including
postings on the T2BridgeTM web site as well as posting on web sites of
local, regional, and national economic development partners. Direct
outreach is also be made to companies located in the Carolinas and other
Southeastern states.
Patent Match facilitates the licensing of DoD technologies to the commercial
sector thereby increasing the competitiveness of the regional and U.S.
industrial base. Examples of patent matching services available include the following:
